SFEMF Twelve consists of four evenings of stimulating performances and fixed media works by internationally recognized artists in the electronic music field at SFMoMA. Special performances from Gregg Kowalsky, 0th, and Kevin Drumm.

If you don’t know him as Atom™, perhaps you know this legend as Señor Coconut, Atom Heart, CMYK, MIDIsport, or as 1/2 of the group Flanger, DATacide, or HAT? Uwe Schmidt is one of the most prolific musicians of the last 20 years. He has been beacon of innovation in the international music scene. He has released over 70 records under various pseudonyms on prestigious labels such as Germany’s Raster Noton and LA-based Nacional Records.

Aptekar explores 3-dimensionality with stacks of laser-cut paperboard. Her laser-cut sculpture-objects show no evidence of the artist’s hand. First designed as virtual 3D objects in CAD software, and then translated into 2D layers of laser-cut bristol board that the artist stacks, the emphasis is on clean design and perfect, machine-executed manufacture. The effect is a sculpting of space.

This April, in partnership with XLR8R, GAFFTA and Two Circles, we are proud to present to you a night of leftfield bass à la Sepalcure, Shigeto, Simple and my band Santa. We will be announcing more details as the night draws closer.

The kinetic, sonic sculptures of artist Zimoun feature armies of mechanical entities that form worlds both uniform and chaotic. He uses simple mechanical devices such as DC and vibration motors combined with other industrial flotsam—speaker arrays, ventilators, PVC hoses, and metal wire—arranged in seemingly simple patterns. America’s only festival devoted to the performance of audio works projected in three-dimensional space, The San Francisco Tape Music Festival returns this January! Curated by sfSound’s San Francisco Tape Music Collective, the festival features three distinct evenings of classic audio art and new fixed media compositions by 20 local and international composers.

On November 8th we open our Fall 2010 season with a strong concert featuring the works of Jèrôme Combier, John Cage, Gabriele Vanoni and Philip Glass. SFMCP co-commissioned Cage’s piece: ‘Seven’ that will be performed next month. This concert also features the U.S. premiere of Combier’s Essere Pietra.

I’ve wanted to learn physical computing for a while now and finally get the chance. In November at Gray Area we’ll be hosting educator Joshua Noble for a workshop to learn how to create physically interactive applications.

My band, Santa, will be performing alongside Ezekiel Honig, Joshue Ott and David Last at Gray Area Foundation for the Arts on October 8th. The event is part of Milieux Sonores, an ongoing interactive sound exhibit put together by the SwissNex, GAFFTA and the Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology.
