As week 3 of the Vices rollout is upon us, Adam’s Castle and I had a second to talk about Brooklyn’s late night eats and what’s next with Triple Down. Grab VLM, the single off of Vices right here.

What’s new with Castle these days?
We are gearing up for our release of Vices Oct 19th. Keeping our
“Rollout Club” rolling, looking at touring in late November.
Practicing. Hunting. Gathering.
I’ve heard some rumors about the art for Vices. Please clarify, what’s
going on with that?
As a lead-up to the release date we started a Rollout Club, where each week for a month we give/gave people that sign-up a couple tracks from the record and a custom piece of artwork to compliment those tracks.
It’s kind of like a season of television, where each week you get a
portion of the whole, then when the season is over you can buy the
DVDs if you like the show. The cover was a beautiful shot by a
fantastic dude named Ben Canales, who does these intense night
exposure shots that really take your breath away. He was the first
week of Vices, and for the following weeks we asked artists that we
felt were bad asses, and had enough depth to give imagery to wordless
music. I have to drop their names: Justin Bilicki, Tricia Kleinot,
Kristofer Porter, and Tess Keller. Oh and we are now in the middle of
Rollout, anyone can sign up to get the remaining tracks for free. It
ends on the 12th of October.
What’s on the top of your playlist these days?
Adam Carolla and Marc Maron Podcasts. Seriously. I’m in one of those
not listening to any music at all phases.
If you were stuck on a desert island and had the basic necessities, what
would be the 5 things you would bring?
A Grand Piano, lots of paper and drawing tools, a videogame system of
some sort, a telescope, and a boat.
Pizza or burrito?
Pizza – Pepperoni all day long. Although chorizo burritos are
ridiculously good.
How has the Midwest influenced your music?
I always say that the midwest breeds some of the most well-rounded
people on the planet. I think it is the 4 seasons, the urban decay and
the resulting rich suburbs (especially Detroit), the lakes, trees,
etc. It’s all in well balanced way too. There is no overwhelmingly
dominant influence, like mountains and good weather in the West or the flourishing city life of the East.
So I kind of feel like our tunes are like that, we straddle moods and
feels that aren’t too intense in any one direction all the time.
Lafayette or American?
Lafayette buddy. If you like American you are very un-American.
Describe your music in 13 words.
Instrumental, daring, fluid, sweeping, hard, sensuous, precise, transportive, hopeful, awake, explosive, expansive and enduring.
What should we expect from Triple Down in the next year?
An EP of remixes for Vices, an acoustic series that we are calling
“Oud” that has all of our artists re-interpreting their stuff, another
Adam’s Castle record called Daylight which is the yin to Vices’ yang.
Me You Us Them has a 7″ inch split coming out with Austin band, Bloody
Knives. Hopefully another Gold & Gunmetal EP, and maybe trying to
convince Adaledge to give us more stuff. All that, plus general
shenanigans. We are making it a point to focus more on the label’s
social presence. We are doing great, but we exist in a bubble. People
who are in are in, but we are kind of under everyone else’s radar.
It is because we are artists first and label owners and operators second.
I’d rather sit around and draw for 5 hours than tweet people till my
thumbs fall off.
Where’s the head stash for late night eats in Brooklyn?
Fette Sau leftover sandwiches best late night eats in Williamsburg…
2 sandwiches of your choice for 5 bucks.
pulled pork, or homemade sausage, or mix and match. Get there after 11:30.
